While working in youth ministry, I wrote and styled curriculum for two retreats for junior high and high school girls. Each student received a saddle-stitch booklet designed with intention to match each theme.
Girls Retreat 2019
The 2019 girl’s retreat was a spiritual formation bootcamp in the woods, centered on passages from 2nd Timothy and Joanne Jung’s “Knowing Grace.” The vibrant pinks and bold geometric text contrasted the deep browns and greens that surrounded the girls who attended, and keep their eyes focused on the content of the curriculum.
Girls Retreat 2018
2018’s girls retreat focused on different biblical female role models, and lessons to be learned from them. The idea was to encourage the young women who attended to find value in themselves and others and to foster christian feminist beliefs. The designs and graphics were inspired by the beachside location for the retreat. The sans serif text and gentle script headers were chosen to be non-distractive and allow the students to be reflective and authentic in their notes.
